How do I know whether my phone supports eSIM?

Dial *#06#. If the list that appears contains an EID line, the device is eSIM-capable. This works with every manufacturer and needs no list.

Which phones support eSIM?

iPhone XS/XR and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer (except the S20 FE and S21 FE), every Z Fold and Z Flip, Google Pixel 3 and newer, plus many newer Motorola, Sony, Xiaomi (global), Honor and OPPO models.

Is it enough that my phone is eSIM-capable?

No: the device must not be carrier-locked (SIM-locked). A phone tied to an operator will not accept another eSIM outside its own network.

Does your phone support eSIM?

An eSIM only works on an eSIM-capable, carrier-unlocked device. Check before you buy — it takes 15 seconds and there is nothing to download.

The reliable test: *#06#

This works on every manufacturer, even if your phone is not in the list below.

Open the dialler on your phone (where you normally type a number).
Type: *#06# — you do not need to place a call, the screen appears on its own.
Scroll the list: if you see a line starting with EID (a long, 32-digit number), your device is eSIM-capable.
If only IMEI is shown and there is no EID, your phone cannot handle eSIM.

Samsung left the eSIM out of this model — the manufacturer's own support page says so too. There is no “Add eSIM” menu, and no firmware update will add one.

Samsung's support page says the FE variants have no eSIM, yet it does work on devices sold in some markets. Here the *#06# test decides — run it before you buy.
